APW team named Oswego County Envirothon champion

The team from Altmar-Parish-Williamstown High School have been named Oswego County Envirothon champions during the recent competition held at Camp Zerbe in Williamstown.

Teams of five from eight Oswego County schools competed in the event. The winning team will represent Oswego County at the state level competition at Hobart and William Smith College on May 23-24. Teams from APW, Central Square, Fulton, Hannibal, Mexico, Oswego, Phoenix and Pulaski participated in the event.

The APW team included members Marissa Barber, Aaliyah McIntyre, Jakob Williams, Jordan Wilson and Salvatore Gulisano and were coached by Roxane Thurmann. None of the team members had participated in the Envirothon in the previous years and coach Thurmann praised them for their hard work to accomplish this feat.

The Envirothon competition is a hands-on event testing students’ knowledge on aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife and current events.

Envirothon began in Oswego County in 1991 and is coordinated through Oswego County Soil and Water.
