APW Class of 2021 honored at Senior Awards Night

The Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District recently held its Senior Awards Night and awarded dozens of students scholarships and accolades.

The district celebrated honorees from the upcoming Class of 2021 in early June with a ceremony at APW Junior/Senior High School auditorium.

Numerous prestigious awards were distributed during the ceremony to students planning to explore a variety of fields, trades and areas of study when they graduate.

Assistant Principal Kristin Moses congratulated the group on their hard-earned achievements, and wished the class that has gone through so much together the best as they begin their futures.

Below is a list of students honored and the awards they won:

Madison Burdick:

  • APW Alumni Award – This award is presented to the senior who is caring, helpful, and thrives for excellence in education and furthering their education.

Hunter Ocmand:

  • APW Alumni Award – This award is presented to the senior who is caring, helpful, and thrives for excellence in education and furthering their education
  • APW Civil Service Award - Given to a senior based upon a letter submitted stating their future plans. Priority is given to students whose parents are members of the local CSEA.
  • Christopher S. Bullock Class of 2006 Memorial Award – this is presented to students going to college or trade school for automotive technology, building or construction trades, including welding, engineering or architecture.
  • Robert J. Kilts Memorial Scholarship – This student should be a motivated, hardworking senior seeking further education in a hands-on trade. Such fields include, but are not limited to, masonry, construction, heating and air conditioning, plumbing, electricians, mechanics, EMT, etc.

Tesla Hiller:

  • Ella O. Phillips Memorial Award - For the senior who has a greatly improved scholastic average.

Autumn Baum:

  • APW Chorus Dedication Award - Presented to a graduating senior who has shown dedication and improvement in the choral program.
  • APW Dollars for Scholars sponsored by the Edick-Hamlink Post 369 VFW and APW Dollars for Scholars Scholarship - Presented to a senior who will be continuing his/her education.
  • Christopher Town Memorial Award - Awarded to the outstanding musician of the graduating class.
  • The Pearl Clark Extraordinary Award - Awarded to a graduating senior who exemplifies the characteristics that were Pearl Clark. This student, like Pearl, has shown qualities that make them extraordinary at being ordinary. They have demonstrated signs of love, kindness, compassion, and a self-sacrificing attitude towards others. This individual roots for the underdog and puts others and their needs before themselves. Many awards are given for what a student has done and many more for what a student will do. This award recognizes this student for who they are perceived to be by those they come in contact with not in a big splashy event, but in their day to day conduct. It has not gone unnoticed. Our hope is that you will continue to live a life that is “extraordinary at being ordinary.”
  • Student Government School Service and Leadership Award - Awarded to a graduating senior in recognition of outstanding service to the APW High School student body and who has demonstrated an active involvement in student leadership activities.
  • Hank Cosselman Memorial Scholarship - Awarded based upon your team successfully becoming the 2019-2020 Oswego County Envirothon Champions.

Alyssa Curry:

  • Rex Crosby Award - For a senior whose academic average has improved over four years.

Rachael Miller:

  • APW Congeniality Award - Presented to the senior considered most congenial.
  • APW Band Booster Award - Presented in recognition of his/her dedication to the APW Band Program. The Boosters would like to say, "Thank you on a job well done!"
  • Student Government School Service and Leadership Award - Awarded to a graduating senior in recognition of outstanding service to the APW High School student body and who has demonstrated an active involvement in student leadership activities. 

Abigail Skellington-Bice:

  • APW Alumni Award - Presented to the senior who is caring, helpful, and thrives for excellence in education and furthering their education
  • APW Dollars for Scholars sponsored by APW Elementary Faculty and Staff Scholarship - Presented to a senior who will be continuing his/her education.
  • APW Faculty Association Scholarship - Awarded to a senior attending college for any of the professions within our association-teaching, teaching assistant, nursing, school counselor, psychology, speech pathology, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and social worker.
  • APW Music Excellence Award - Awarded to a graduating senior who has shown outstanding leadership and management in the choral/drama program.
  • Class of 1967 Memorial Award - Awarded to a descendant of a class of '67 graduate.
  • Doris Murray Memorial Award - Awarded to a senior entering the teaching profession.
  • Dorothy P. Bristol Memorial Award - Given to a senior with skill in music with aptitude and ability in chorus or band.
  • Elston A. Ecker Scholarship - For a senior who has demonstrated good school citizenship, seriousness of purpose and potential for success in a teaching career.

Holly Meagher:

  • Joseph Metott Memorial Award for Compassion - Awarded in memory of Joseph Metott to seniors who show great compassion

Sydney Townsend:

  • Amelia Michelle Wade Memorial Character Scholarship - Amelia was a junior at APW High School who passed away unexpectedly from pulmonary hypertension. This award will be given to a senior who has a caring, helpful, and positive attitude.
  • APW Dollars for Scholars sponsored by Oswego County Mutual Insurance Company and APW Dollars for Scholars Scholarship - Presented to a senior who will be continuing his/her education.
  • APW Faculty Association Scholarship - Awarded to a senior attending college for any of the professions within our association-teaching, teaching assistant, nursing, school counselor, psychology, speech pathology, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and social worker.
  • Rex Crosby Scholarship - For a senior continuing his/her education.
  • Howard L. & Marion J. Allen Scholarship - Awarded to a graduating senior that is furthering their education in a trade or mental health field (nursing, heavy machinery, psychology)

Kathryn Trumble:

  • 2021 Scholarship for Academic Excellence – awarded to a graduating senior with a top rank in their class
  • APW Alumni Award - Presented to the senior who is caring, helpful, and thrives for excellence in education and furthering their education
  • APW Dollars for Scholars sponsored by the Arlene N. Superko Memorial Scholarship - Presented to a senior who will be continuing his/her education.
  • APW Drama Excellence Award - For a senior who has contributed greatly to the Drama Club
  • APW Faculty Association Scholarship - Awarded to a senior attending college for any of the professions within our association-teaching, teaching assistant, nursing, school counselor, psychology, speech pathology, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and social worker.
  • APW Little League Scholarship for Softball - Presented to a senior attending college/trade school in the fall who played softball during their senior year and played in APW Little League.
  • Class of 1967 Memorial Award - Awarded to a descendant of a class of '67 graduate.
  • Class of 1978 Memorial Award - Presented to a hardworking senior who has contributed himself or herself to senior class activities and has received little recognition.
  • Class of 2021 Salutatorian Award - Awarded to the graduating senior with the second highest four year academic average.
  • Jeremy Spencer Memorial Award - Presented to a senior in memory of APW Alumni Jeremy Spencer, who was killed by a drunk driver. Jeremy was a good, hardworking young man that would help anyone without a question. He was a friend to everyone young and old.
  • Steven Ernest Esposito Memorial Scholarship - Awarded to a student who is attending a 2 or 4 year college and has displayed a desire to preserve the environment, allowing future generations opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Preference will be given to a student pursuing a career in the environment
  • Pulaski Masonic Lodge #415 Award - Presented to a graduating senior who has made a difference in the local community through service and inspiration, and who plans to pursue a post high school education or military service. 

Elizabeth Roth:

  • Amelia Michelle Wade Medical Scholarship - Amelia was a junior at APW High School who passed away unexpectedly from pulmonary hypertension. This award will be given to a senior pursuing a career in the medical field.
  • APW Dollars for Scholars sponsored by the APW Class of 2020 Scholarship - Presented to a senior who will be continuing his/her education.
  • APW Little League Scholarship for Softball - Presented to a senior attending college/trade school in the fall who played softball during their senior year and played in APW Little League.
  • Grant Decker Scholarship - Grant Decker taught Physical Education at the APW CSD for over 30 years and continued to coach Basketball, Track, and Cross Country until his passing. The Grant Decker Sports Scholarship honors athletes who have demonstrated the Decker qualities of focus, positivity, and enthusiasm. These athletes may not necessarily be the best in their sport, but have focused on reaching their potential and are good teammates. This scholarship will be awarded to one boy and one girl each year who have participated in track, cross country, or basketball. 

James Winnie:

  • Ashbel Upson Ballister Award - Given to a senior boy who has demonstrated outstanding achievement, citizenship, and improvement.

Allisyn Scott:

  • Amanda Hutchinson and Jeremy Spencer Memorial Award - Given to a senior pursuing a career in the medical field in memory of Amanda Hutchinson, who was killed by a drunk driver.
  • Amelia Michelle Wade Medical Scholarship - Amelia was a junior at APW High School who passed away unexpectedly from pulmonary hypertension. This award will be given to a senior pursuing a career in the medical field.
  • APW Alumni Award - Presented to the senior who is caring, helpful, and thrives for excellence in education and is furthering their education.
  • APW Civil Service Award - Given to a senior based upon a letter submitted stating their future plans. Priority is given to students whose parents are members of the local CSEA.
  • APW Marching Band Award - Awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and dedication in marching band.
  • Doris Gates-Bristol Memorial Award - Given to a senior who is planning a professional career in the medical, dental, or veterinary field.
  • Joseph Metott Memorial Award for Compassion - Awarded in memory of Joseph Metott to seniors who show great compassion.
  • Marie Phillips Memorial Award - For a senior pursuing a health related field.
  • Steven Ernest Esposito Memorial Scholarship - Awarded to a student who is attending a 2 or 4 year college and has displayed a desire to preserve the environment, allowing future generations opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

Audrey DeGraw:

  • APW Alumni Award - Presented to the senior who is caring, helpful, and thrives for excellence in education and furthering their education
  • Class of 1989 Scholarship - Awarded to a senior who has been accepted to either a trade school or college, or has graduated from CiTi career ready, has exhibited good character, and has a history of extra-curricular and/or volunteer activity involvement. Students must be hard-working and must show APW spirit.
  • Student Government School Service and Leadership Award - Awarded to a graduating senior in recognition of outstanding service to the APW High School student body and who has demonstrated an active involvement in student leadership activities.
  • Hank Cosselman Memorial Scholarship - Awarded based upon your team successfully becoming the 2019-2020 Oswego County Envirothon Champions.

Avery Stowell:

  • Class of 1967 Memorial Award - Awarded to a descendant of a class of '67 graduate. 

Lilly Sweeney:

  • 2021 Scholarship for Academic Excellence - awarded to a graduating senior with a top rank in their class
  • APW Dollars for Scholars sponsored by the International Wire and APW Dollars for Scholars Scholarship - Presented to a senior who will be continuing his/her education.
  • Nancy Wart Memorial Award - Given to a senior who exhibits the characteristics demonstrated by Nancy, of being a good worker, friendly, compassionate, and active in their school or community. This student also exhibits good character and integrity.
  • Rodney W. Jennings Memorial Scholarship - Awarded to a graduating senior who has contributed to the APW Band Program, has a desire and the initiative to pursue higher education, and has been accepted to an institution of higher learning.
  • Student Government School Service and Leadership Award - Awarded to a graduating senior in recognition of outstanding service to the APW High School student body and who has demonstrated an active involvement in student leadership activities. 

David Kolodziejczyk:

  • APW Band Award - Presented to the senior who during his/her junior and senior year has shown the most improvement. 

Amelia Auringer:

  • 2021 Scholarship for Academic Excellence - awarded to a graduating senior with a top rank in their class
  • Class of 2021 Valedictorian Award - Awarded to the graduating senior with the highest four year Academic average.
  • Dora Bristol Memorial Award - Awarded to the senior with the best math aptitude.
  • Steven Ernest Esposito Memorial Scholarship - Awarded to a student who is attending a 2 or 4 year college and has displayed a desire to preserve the environment, allowing future generations opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Preference will be given to a student pursuing a career in the environment
  • Valedictorian Award - In recognition of the hard work and dedication it takes to be the valedictorian.
  • Hank Cosselman Memorial Scholarship - Awarded based upon your team successfully becoming the 2019-2020 Oswego County Envirothon Champions. 

Hanna Durgan:

  • Joseph Metott Memorial Award for Sports - Awarded to a senior in memory of Joseph Metott, who was active in sports throughout his entire high school career. This award is given to a student who has interest in sports, has a good personality, and is attending college.

Benjamin Korzeniewski:

  • APW Alumni Most Improved Award - Presented to a senior with a greatly improved academic average.

Jay Lovenguth:

  • 2021 Scholarship for Academic Excellence - awarded to a graduating senior with a top rank in their class

Benjamin Ostrander:

  • David Antoski Memorial Award - For a senior who has shown the greatest achievement in Industrial Arts/Technology
  • Grant Decker Scholarship - Grant Decker taught Physical Education at the APW CSD for over 30 years and continued to coach Basketball, Track, and Cross Country until his passing.   • Howard L. & Marion J. Allen Scholarship - Awarded to a graduating senior that is furthering their education in a trade or mental health field (nursing, heavy machinery, psychology)

Hunter DeGraw:

  • APW Alumni Award - Presented to the senior who is caring, helpful, and thrives for excellence in education and is furthering their education
  • Gerald H. Haynes Memorial Award - Awarded to a graduating senior who will be pursuing law enforcement.

Julianna Bresha:

  • APW Civil Service Award - Given to a senior based upon a letter submitted stating their future plans. Priority is given to students whose parents are members of the local CSEA.
  • APW Dollars for Scholars sponsored by the Ecker and Faulkner Memorial Scholarship - Presented to a senior who will be continuing his/her education.
  • Lynn Phillips Memorial Award - Given to a senior planning a career in the arts, fashion, or merchandising.
  • Nancy Wart Office Technologies Award - Given to a student who is pursuing an office technologies career. This student must demonstrate that they have a job in this field already lined up or are accepted to an institute of higher learning, business, or trade school.
  • Weston Fund - Awarded to a graduating senior who is continuing their education.

Kaliyah Scott:

  • Lake Ontario Chapter #124 Order of the Eastern Star Award – presented to a senior who has provided community service. 

Miranda Hamilton:

  • Amelia Michelle Wade Memorial Character Scholarship - Amelia was a junior at APW High School who passed away unexpectedly from pulmonary hypertension. This award will be given to a senior who has a caring, helpful, and positive attitude.
  • APW Dollars for Scholars sponsored by The Fulton Companies Scholarship - Presented to a senior who will be continuing his/her education.
  • Class of 2019 Scholarship - Awarded to a graduating senior that was a class officer during high school. This award is based on involvement, effort, and spirit.
  • Ella Hanrahan Ballister Award - For a senior girl demonstrating outstanding achievement, citizenship, and improvement.
  • Steven Ernest Esposito Memorial Scholarship - Awarded to a student who is attending a 2 or 4 year college and has displayed a desire to preserve the environment, allowing future generations opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Preference will be given to a student pursuing a career in the environment
  • Student Government School Service and Leadership Award - Awarded to a graduating senior in recognition of outstanding service to the APW High School student body and who has demonstrated an active involvement in student leadership activities.
  • Susan Cooper Fassler Prize - Awarded to a graduating senior for excellence in creative writing, drama, or literary criticism.
  • Weston Fund - Awarded to a graduating senior who is continuing their education.

Riley Saccone:

  • APW Alumni Award - Presented to the senior who is caring, helpful, and thrives for excellence in education and furthering their education
  • LaRock Scholarship - Given to a senior who may be attending a trade school or school for business and has shown ambition and the desire to work.

Brandon Warchol:

  • Joseph Metott Memorial Award for Sports - Awarded to a senior in memory of Joseph Metott, who was active in sports throughout his entire high school career. This award is given to a student who has interest in sports, has a good personality, and is attending college. 

Nickolas Richards:

  • Joseph Murray Memorial Award - For a senior who has taken a Technology Program at Oswego County BOCES and has shown a good work ethic in that program.
