Universal Pre-K Lottery 2024-2025

All children who will be four years of age on or before December 1, 2024 can participate in the Universal Pre-Kindergarten Lottery.  Please complete this form (linked below) if you would like your child to be included in our UPK Lottery.  We anticipate having full-day and half-day spots available that are funded through the New York State Universal Pre-K Grant.

The requirement to be able to sign up your Preschool child in the lottery are as follows:

  • The child must be living with a legal parent/guardian in the APW School District

  • The child must turn four years old on or before December 1, 2024

  • The child cannot be five years old or older on or before December 1, 2024

You must complete one form per child.  Please complete the UPK Lottery Google Form by Friday, April 5, 2024.  Please complete all sections and remember to click “Submit” in order for your lottery application to be received.  The district is not responsible for entries not submitted.

If your child is selected for the UPK Program, you will receive an acceptance letter after April 29, 2024.  The acceptance letter will contain instructions on how to complete the registration process, which will occur online after the receipt of the acceptance letter.

The lottery application form is available in the below link.  You ONLY have to fill out the UPK lottery form.  No other paperwork is necessary at this time.  Please complete the form once for each child you are entering into the lottery.  Registration with the district will occur following the lottery and notification of selection.

Does APW offer a Universal Pre-K program for 3 Year olds?

Students must be 4 years old on or before December 1, 2024 to participate in this program.

Can my child be 5 years old before December 1, 2024 and still go into the Universal Pre-K program?

No. Based on the NYS Education Department requirements, the child has to be 4 years old on or before December 1, 2024.

Is there anything I can do to guarantee my child is chosen?

No.  The lottery is entirely random and demographics are not a factor in the selection process.

How many Universal Pre-K spots are available?

The number of available spots in the Universal Pre-K program depends on the final state grant funds.  So the number of spots available are not certain. Spots for full-day and AM half-day are limited.  Not all families may receive the placement of their choice should the child be chosen in the UPK Program.

What happens if my child is selected?

If your child is selected, parents must agree to send their child 5 days per week.  You will be receiving an acceptance letter from the District which will contain instructions and timeline for the online registration of your child.

Who do I contact if I have more questions?

Please contact the District Registrar at or (315) 625-5275.
