APW junior selected for STEAM Leadership Conference opportunity

William Francisco, a junior at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown, has been selected out of a competitive applicant pool to attend the 2024 Project Fibonacci® STEAM Leadership Conference in August.

Themed "The Smart Machine and the Human Factor," this conference will gather students from across New York State for a week-long exploration of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Participants will engage in hands-on learning activities that combine artistic and scientific critical thinking skills with collaboration and teamwork. They will explore pressing issues facing society while learning from expert researchers, entrepreneurs and educators.

Francisco, whose passion for computer science led him to pursue coding at CiTi BOCES, expressed his excitement about the opportunity. "I'm fascinated by computer science fields such as AI,” he said. “This conference is a chance for me to deepen my understanding of how it works.”

APW Director of Instructional Technology, Diane Bush, spoke on behalf of the selection committee which also included Principal Jen O’Malley and Assistant Principal Tim LaRose. "After careful review of numerous applications and conducting thorough interviews, we unanimously agreed that Francisco was the ideal candidate to represent APW at the conference,” she said.
