Superintendent of Schools
Hello APW community!
Welcome back to school!!! We have not been in the school hallways and classrooms since March.
Never has the anticipation or excitement for returning to school been so extreme for all of us; students, parents, teachers and district staff.
We are READY to see you, get a smile (through a mask ) and begin learning how to operate in the “new normal” that a global pandemic has brought upon us!
We have been busy all summer changing procedures and protocols to ensure we follow all Department of Health (DOH) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines throughout our district. We have made our classrooms and buildings as welcoming as possible for our students! Remote learning again??? Even though we are beginning with remote learning three days a week for our students, we listened to you. If a student does not have access to a device for remote learning, we have devices available to loan. We know that parents need our help in understanding how the students will access their school work. We are working diligently to ensure that parents have access to training for technology and/or a way to request help from a technology expert. Our teachers, with no training or lead time, worked hard to offer remote instruction when school closed last March. A Reopening Task Force comprised of 65 people (community members, parents, students, district staff, teachers and administrators) worked through the summer to prepare to open school safely and improve remote instruction. We are prepared to offer students and parents an experience with remote instruction that is less stressful and “annoying” than we were able to in the past.
We look forward to welcoming our students back to school as well as working with them to overcome the challenges of living during a time in which a global pandemic has changed the way we do things. We are all definitely challenged with a “new normal.” Offering your children, our students, a safe and nurturing environment in which to learn is our challenge and we take that on whole-heartedly.
Again, welcome back. Please feel free to give my office a call (315) 625-5252 or stop in to see. Your children are our children, we work in partnership together to ensure the best opportunities and the best care!
