  • Writing the College Essay

    College Essay Advisers - This link will take you to a series of YouTube videos designed to help you write your college essay. There are videos about "Do's and Don'ts" the specific essay topics and the ways to present information. This is a great resources to get you started!

  • NYS Excelsior Scholarship

    Class of 2021… Are you attending a SUNY or CUNY school this fall?  If so, you may be eligible for the NYS Excelsior Scholarship.  

    To apply, students must meet eligibility requirements, including:

    • Be residents of New York State
    • Plan to attend a SUNY or CUNY two or four-year college
    • Complete 30 credits per year towards their program of study
    • Graduate with an Associate's Degree in two years or a Bachelor's Degree in four years

    Family income requirements: This program is open to students whose annual household federal adjusted gross income is $125,000 or less.

    To complete the application, you will need: 2019  IT-201 NYS Income Tax Return(s) for you and your parent(s), as applicable.

    NYS Enhanced Tuition Award

    Are you a 2021 high school graduate attending one of these private colleges or universities located in New York State this fall?  If so, you may be eligible for the NYS Enhanced Tuition Award.

    To apply, students must meet eligibility requirements, including:

    • Be residents of New York State
    • Be pursuing an undergraduate degree at a participating private colleges or universities located in New York State
    • Complete 30 credits per year towards their program of study
    • Graduate with an Associate's Degree in two years or a Bachelor's Degree in four years

    Family income requirements: This program is open to students whose annual household federal adjusted gross income is $125,000 or less.

    To complete the application, you will need: 2019 IT-201 NYS Income Tax Return(s) for you and your parent(s), as applicable.

    Upstate Accelerated Scholars Program

    As rising seniors are preparing for their college visits, SUNY Upstate Medical University has launched their NEW Upstate Accelerated Scholars Program -- designed for high school seniors (application timelines may vary by parterning undergraduate institution) who wish to apply to both an undergradute instutions and medical school simultaneously.

    If accepted, students are guaranteed accepted to Upstate College of Medicine upon completion of their undergraduate degree and completion of conditional acceptance requirements (participation in summer programming and minimum GPA).

    Some benefits of Upstate Accelerated Scholars:

    • NO MCAT required
    • Avoid traditional medical school interviewing/application cycle and costs associated
    • Summer programming and community-building at Upstate during undergraduate years
    • Major in topics of interest rather than those simply a fit for medical school
